How to write a motion graphic that reaches a million views

No formula guarantees a million views, but the script decides most of what makes people watch a motion graphic to the end and share it.

How to write a motion graphic that reaches a million views

Most motion graphics that fall flat were lost at the script stage, before anyone opened a design tool. Animation can make a clear idea attractive. It cannot make an unclear idea clear. Platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube tend to show more widely the videos people watch through and share, and both of those depend on the writing. That is why this article is about the script, where the outcome is usually decided.

Start with one idea

Before writing a single scene, write the whole message in one sentence. If you cannot, the video is trying to do too much. One video, one idea, one action. Then respect the time you have: voice-over is usually paced at around two to two and a half words per second, so a 30-second video holds roughly 60 to 75 words. Arabic voice-over may need a slightly different count, so read the script aloud with a timer.

A structure that holds attention

  • Hook, in the first two or three seconds: a question, a surprising contrast or the problem itself, shown rather than announced. Many people watch without sound, so the hook must work as text and image.
  • Problem: describe the viewer's situation in their own words, so they recognize themselves.
  • Turn: introduce the product or idea as the change, through one concrete example.
  • Proof: one fact or one visual demonstration, not a list of features.
  • Action: one clear next step, both spoken and shown on screen.

Write for the screen, not the page

Write the script in two columns: what we hear and what we see. Every line of voice-over needs a visual that adds something, not one that repeats the words. Keep on-screen text short enough to read in the time it stays up. If the main channel is Reels, TikTok or Shorts, design for vertical 9:16 first and keep key elements away from the edges, where the app's buttons and captions sit. For Gulf and Egyptian audiences, decide early between Modern Standard Arabic and dialect, because that choice shapes the rhythm of every line.

If the idea does not survive as a one-sentence script, no amount of animation will save it.
